Youth Dance classes at DanSci Dance Studio, Exeter

There are many reasons why you may wish your child to try a dance class, from the physical and psychological adaptations to the social benefits. We want everyone's first steps in dance to be happy, safe & supported and for all children to see and feel their development as they progress on their dance journey.

DanSci Dance Studio provides an all-inclusive recreational dance platform for children to learn technique, gain confidence, be inspired and become creative thinkers who lead an active lifestyle. We believe in developing thinking dancers with a solid grounding in technique and scientific knowledge, as well as fun and artistry. With performance opportunities throughout the year and the option to join our crew and show teams there is something for everyone at DanSci Dance Studio's children's dance classes in Exeter!

We offer a number of different dance styles. Below is a description of the classes we have on offer and the age these classes start from. Discover the best styles for your child and we can help you on your dance journey by booking a three week introductory trial.
From experience, we know it can be a little daughting trying something new, it can take a few weeks to settle into a class and get a real 'feel' for the style hence our policy of an introductory three week trial. By the third session both yourself and your budding star will have grown in confidence and be able to make an informed decision on whether the class is the right style for them.
We appreciate that not all parents want their children to become professional dancers. While we encourage everyone to try their best and reach their own personal dance goals we also take the matter of educating your child seriously and look to your support, whether that's helping them to be on time for class or discussing their learning and watching their performances. We all learnt maths at school but not many of us became accountants, learning to dance is the same. Everyone can benefit from the life lessons learnt through the arts.

Creative Ballet 6 years plus

Thursdays & Saturdays

A creative approach to classical ballet, these session are perfect for children who wish to dance for pleasure but still in a structured manner, learning and honing their technique. We follow the Ballet Arts System of the Utah Ballet Academy for ages 6 through 15. Levels are determined by age and ability, and beautifully build on one another, with exercises from previous years made more complex and challenging as the student grows and develops mentally and physically.

Creative Ballet is a non competitive 'stepping-stone' class from babyballet where the children hone their fundamental natural movement skills into classical ballet technique. Instead of traditional examinations the children get the opportunity to perform to parents several times a year enhancing their choreographic skills, mime and musicality.

Utilising the latest dance science knowledge on class structure, dancer health and well-being the student will begin to learn how to function in a traditional ballet classroom setting, perfect classwork at the barre, learn proper preparations and finishes for exercises as well as being introduced to a class format that they will use for the remainder of their dance training. Dancers must show competence in all areas studied before progressions are developed through formal in house assessments.

Acrobatic Arts 3 years plus

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays

Acrobatic Dance, or Acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements.

Acro gained popularity with the wide spread success of the contemporary circus productions of Cirque du Soleil. Main stream media including dance television programs like ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ and ‘Dance Moms’ have further fuelled it’s demand in amateur competitive dance and studio settings.

Acro is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements is required. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength.

We currently run three levels for Acro although everyone regardless of age will be require to do their trial in Acro level 1
